The eyes of Australian Hockey will be on Tasmania next week when the 2019 Under-18’s Australian Championships get underway in Hobart.

The Championships are supported by the Tasmanian Government, through Events Tasmania and Hockey Tasmania.

The Under-18’s Men’s and Women’s Australian Championships will run from Tuesday 9 April to Wednesday 17 April at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre in Hobart.

There will be 64 matches across the seven days of competition, with Friday 12 April and Monday 15 April being rest days and finals taking place on Wednesday 17 April.

Ten teams will compete in each division, with ACT, NSW Blue, NSW State, Northern Territory, Queensland, SA, Tasmania, Victoria, WA and an Alliance side participating in both men’s and women’s.

NSW State were last year’s women’s winners, with Victoria triumphing for the Men’s title.

Hockey Australia CEO Matt Favier said: “Hockey Australia is excited for the upcoming Under-18’s Australian Championships in Hobart which offers our next generation of Hockey stars an opportunity to shine on the national stage.

“Hockey Australia extends its deepest appreciation to all of the volunteers and officials that have assisted us in the planning and co-ordination of the Championships.

“Without the support of our dedicated volunteers, we would be unable to deliver our events to the high standard expected by all participants.

“I wish all players and team officials the best of luck for a successful Championships and I am sure that all spectators will enjoy watching the quality hockey that will be on display.”
