Hockey Australia today congratulates Kookaburras forward Kieran Govers who has announced his retirement from international hockey effective immediately.

Wollongong product Govers, 30, enjoyed a decorated career for Australia, having debuted in January 2010 against Korea Republic in Hobart.

2019 National Senior Men’s Squad Announced

Hockey Australia today announces the 27-member 2019 National Senior Men’s Squad as the team builds towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The world number one Kookaburras will compete in the inaugural FIH Pro League from January to June next year, followed by the Oceania Cup which is the qualification event for the Tokyo Olympics.

The Selection Panel considered a number of priorities upon selecting the squad, with a long-term view to medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics along with achieving performance benchmarks in 2019 at the Pro League and Olympic qualification.

Hockey Australia today announces the 18-member Kookaburras team which will compete at the upcoming 2018 FIH Men’s World Cup in Bhubaneswar, India.

World number one Australia heads into the tournament having won the past two World Cups in 2010 and 2014. 

The Kookaburras are pooled against England (ranked seventh), Ireland (10th) and China PR (17th) for the World Cup which runs from 28 November to 16 December.

Kookaburras head coach Colin Batch said: "We're very excited about the team we've selected, it's always competitive but it's also about having runs on the board.

The Kookaburras have heaped praise on hosts Darwin following their 10-day stay in the Top End for the Darwin International Hockey Open where they finished as runners-up.

World number one Australia lost Saturday night’s final in front of almost 1,000 people 2-1 to the second-ranked Argentines.

The Kookaburras arrived in Darwin on Wednesday 12 September to get several days training under their belts in the heat and humidity ahead of the 2018 World Cup in India in November and December.

Hockey Australia (HA) today announces that the City of Gold Coast will host three major Hockey events, including this year’s last-ever Australian Hockey League (AHL) Finals from 25-28 October.

The announcement is made in partnership with the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast under an agreement which will also see the 2019 Trans-Tasman Masters Hockey and 2019 Australian Women’s Masters Hockey played on the Gold Coast.
