Jodie Kenny and Aran Zalewski have taken out the prestigious 2018 Hockeyroos and Kookaburras Player of the Year awards which were announced at Hockey Australia’s annual awards night in Perth on Sunday evening.

More than 150 people were in attendance for the evening at the Flour Factory following Australia’s FIH Pro League matches against Great Britain in Perth on Saturday.

Kenny scooped the pool of the Hockeyroos awards, winning both the Player of the Year and the Top Goal Scorer awards for 2018

The Hockeyroos’ impressive start to the 2019 FIH Pro League has continued with a 3-0 victory over reigning Olympic champions Great Britain in front of more than 4,500 fans in Perth on Saturday night.

Kalindi Commerford, Mariah Williams and Savannah Fitzpatrick scored the goals as Australia moved on to 11 points from five games.

Williams, in just her fifth game back following 18 months out with injury, was named Player of the Match for the second time in the FIH Pro League

 The Kookaburras and the Hockeyroos have switched their attention to facing Great Britain in Perth in the FIH Pro League on Saturday, with both hoping for some warm weather for Australia’s old enemy.

The world number two Kookaburras will take on the seventh-ranked Brits at 3:30pm WST/6:30pm AEDT on Saturday, followed by the third-ranked Hockeyroos facing 2016 Rio Olympics gold medallists from 5:30pm WST/8:30pm AEDT at Perth Hockey Stadium.

The Kookaburras have secured their first win of the FIH Pro League, defeating Germany 4-2 in front of a bumper crowd in Hobart on Sunday.


Jacob Anderson was the standout all day long, nailing two first-half goals and being awarded Player of the Match.

Led by Tasmanian Eddie Ockenden, Australia was able to break away from Germany after a 2-2 first half, finding two much-needed goals through Tom Wickham and Dylan Wotherspoon.

Hockey Australia today congratulates Kookaburras forward Kieran Govers who has announced his retirement from international hockey effective immediately.

Wollongong product Govers, 30, enjoyed a decorated career for Australia, having debuted in January 2010 against Korea Republic in Hobart.
