Gaudoin: Hockeyroos Must Learn From This For World Cup

Hockeyroos coach Paul Gaudoin wants his side to learn the lessons of their 2018 Commonwealth Games final defeat for their betterment ahead of the 2018 World Cup and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Australia will compete at the World Cup in London in July and August, having lost 4-1 to New Zealand in the Commonwealth Games gold medal match on Saturday afternoon.

The Hockeyroos are a win away from clinching top spot in Pool B after an entertaining 0-0 draw with New Zealand in their 2018 Commonwealth Games clash at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre on Monday night. 

Australia and New Zealand traded blows throughout an end-to-end contest in front of boisterous crowd where little separated the sides with top spot in Pool B up for grabs.

The Hockeyroos edged the possession count 54-46 and had 34 circle penetrations compared to New Zealand’s 16 but couldn’t find a way through after a strong first half.

The Hockeyroos have emphatically defeated Japan 8-1 to seal a clean sweep of their Test series in front of a healthy Adelaide crowd on Saturday afternoon.

Australia clinched the 3-0 series win with Madi Ratcliffe scoring a double, the first and last goals of the game, ending the side’s year full of positivity.

The Hockeyroos have hung on to claim an unassailable lead in their three-match Test series with a 2-1 victory over Japan at Adelaide’s State Hockey Centre on Thursday night.

Madi Ratcliffe and Kathryn Slattery scored first-half goals, before Japan pressed hard in the second half with Shiho Tsujii pulling one back as they put Australia under intense pressure.

Hockey Australia today announces the Hockeyroos teams for next month’s International Festival of Hockey (IFoH) in Bendigo and Melbourne and the Test Match Series against Japan in Adelaide.

Australia will play world number one and Rio Olympics silver medallists Netherlands, World League Semi-Final winners USA and world number 11 Japan at the International Festival of Hockey from 6-12 November.
