As he hones in on his Rio 2016 Olympic Games team, Hockeyroos Head Coach Adam Commens has named what he believes is the Hockeyroos’ strongest squad for the Hawke’s Bay Cup in New Zealand next month. 

In contrast, a one-off Test against China in Perth on Thursday has also provided Commens with the chance to blood new, young talent in preparation for the future, post-Rio.

Strikes from Kellie White, Laura Barden and Savannah Fitzpatrick led an inexperienced Hockeyroos team to a 3-1 win over China in their Test match in Perth on Thursday. 

In a side with an average age of just 22, it was one of the Hockeyroos’ more experienced campaigners, Kellie White, still just 24, who opened the scoring with her first goal since returning earlier this year from knee surgery.

Georgie Parker’s double either side of an Ashleigh Nelson deflection secured a 3-0 win over Ireland and with it the Hockeyroos’ place in Saturday’s semi final at the Hawke’s Bay Cup in Hastings.
                 
Australia’s women will face either hosts New Zealand Black Sticks or Korea, who finished bottom of Pool A, as they seek to secure a third consecutive appearance in the event’s grand final.

The Hockeyroos squads for the International Hockey Open in Darwin and for the Champions Trophy in London have been announced today. 

Head Coach Adam Commens has selected strong teams of 18 to compete in each event, with members of the core Hockeyroos squad being given the opportunity to cement their places in the team ahead of selection for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
