Hockey Australia today congratulates Kookaburras forward Kieran Govers who has announced his retirement from international hockey effective immediately.

Wollongong product Govers, 30, enjoyed a decorated career for Australia, having debuted in January 2010 against Korea Republic in Hobart.

2019 National Senior Men’s Squad Announced

Hockey Australia today announces the 27-member 2019 National Senior Men’s Squad as the team builds towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The world number one Kookaburras will compete in the inaugural FIH Pro League from January to June next year, followed by the Oceania Cup which is the qualification event for the Tokyo Olympics.

The Selection Panel considered a number of priorities upon selecting the squad, with a long-term view to medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics along with achieving performance benchmarks in 2019 at the Pro League and Olympic qualification.

Kookaburras Team Named For Darwin International Hockey Open

Hockey Australia today announces the 20-member Kookaburras team for the upcoming Darwin International Hockey Open (DIHO) and two Tests against Argentina.

The world number one Kookaburras will compete against Argentina (ranked second), Malaysia (12th) and Japan (16th) in the DIHO from Tuesday-Saturday 18-22 September at Marrara Hockey Centre.

The Kookaburras have given retiring captain Mark Knowles a fairy tale finish and secured their sixth consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal after a 2-0 win over New Zealand in Saturday’s final at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre.

Second quarter goals from Aaron Kleinschmidt and Matt Dawson secured the victory for Australia, who also made it 33 straight Commonwealth Games wins in the process.

Australia have taken out third place at the World League Semi-Final in Johannesburg, South Africa tonight, defeating Spain 8 – 1 and qualifying for the World League Final and the 2018 World Cup along the way.

The game began with both Australia and Spain fighting for possession of the ball, but it wasn’t long before Australia took control of the game. Jake Whetton cracked the score board seven minutes in when he smacked the ball straight into the net from the top of the D.
